Input Select field Placeholder

I am wondering if there is an easy way to have the placeholder show when using the select field?

As it stands You cannot use the default as placeholder on these fields, is there a way you can mark up a “placeholder” value rather than placing it as the first option and then using validation to negate it’s use?
