I’ve put WP on my computer with Xammp etc. When I do the last step of typing in http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php in my browser I get this message:

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

What should I do? The username and password are as per instructions in http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/xampp/

    Help is greatly appreciated.

    Ollie

So your MySQL database server is running? Can you use phpMyAdmin to access your database? The password is left blank in most cases on xampp systems. Here’s my password line from wp-config.php

    define('DB_PASSWORD', ''); // ...and password
