Support » Plugin: Imsanity » Infinite scrolling not sure if image resizing completed

    Hello,
When we run this plugin on WP Engine, it starts off running the bulk resize normally. But then after a certain point, the scroll bar ‘jumps’ to the middle and the list of images just starts scrolling and scrolling infinitely. Like, for hours.

Are there any server requirements we need to be aware of for bulk resizing to work properly? E.g. I dunno, memory limits?

There are a lot of images, but is this normal?

I can’t show the full screen (it’s animated anyway, it’s just scrolling forever) but this is what it looks like on the side https://cloudup.com/cfoNDKUEAsu

All three sizes are set to 1920 x 0
    JPG Image quality is 82
Convert BMP To JPG – checked
Convert PNG To JPG – checked
    Delete originals – checked

It’s hard to say for sure what happened there, but yes there are some memory constraints with image resizing. However, if your server was able to generate thumbnails successfully, it can generally work just fine with Imsanity, as it uses the same core WP image functions.

But no, that’s not normal for the scroll to just jump like that, I’ve never seen such a thing, and can’t say as I’ve ever heard such a report from anyone else either.

I would just refresh the screen, which will stop the process, and then you should be able to resume the process. If not, just start it over, won’t hurt anything.

I’ve already tried to refresh. It doesn’t show anything to resume. So I started again and it did the same thing. We do have thumbnails under /wp-admin/upload.php in the back end but there are a lot of images, so I’m not sure how far back I should check. Is there a way to confirm that Imsanity has resized ALL site images? I.e. in case it pauses at a certain point?

Or is there a memory limit increase I should ask WP Engine to change? Or something else?

I’d swap over to list mode in the media library, check the latest couple pages of images to make sure Imsanity processed them, and then check the last couple pages (oldest images) also.

With WP Engine, there really shouldn’t be any memory issues, because the resizing is done by Imagick, and to my knowledge it is exempt from the PHP memory limit.
There CAN be issues if your WPE server is configured with image size limits, but we haven’t had reports of that in a while, and usually Imsanity should catch those errors anyway.

I’d check the error logs on WPE and see if there’s any clues there.

All that said, just in case it’s some weird JS issue, how many images are we dealing with here?

It seems like it did resize everything but there is no notice that it’s done. It just does the infinite scrolling thing. We did run your plugin on a staging copy on another server and didn’t have this issue. I’m not sure how to troubleshoot this more but if it works, then it works, so I guess that’s ok.

Yeah, the “done” notice shows up in that status box, so if the scrolling messes it up, then you’d never see the completion notice either.

I might just have to get rid of the auto-scrolling JS, as I’m remembering there were some weird issues with it way back. Folks can certainly scroll manually if they want to see the whole list/log 🙂

Thank you for your help and responsiveness to this.
