Infected php file

  • It seems that my upgrade-effete-rebus.php is infected with the eval(base64_decode code. That’s the only php file that’s infected. Is there a way to clean this file or is it safe to delete the file. If I delete it, and the file is necessarry, how can I install a clean copy? Thanks.

If the code looks obvious, you could delete it and then re-upload.

Where is this file located? Is it part of your theme? If so, then you could go and grab a fresh copy of the theme and see what’s in there and if it’s needed.

Thanks, Christine. The file was in wp-admin. I downloaded a copy of the file and then deleted it from the folder. There doesn’t seem to be any effect on my site after deleting the file. The file basically contained nothing but binary data.

Ah.. sounds like the file wasn’t necessary then. I’ve never noticed any files with that name.
