Individual post archiving

I am trying to find a plugin or manipulate the code in my wordpress blog, to archive selected posts. The website is being used to advert events, and I would like to remove (not delete) from the main page, posts (i.e. events) which are not needed and post them in a seperate category (i.e Past events)

Can anyone please help me ?
