[resolved] Individual blogs = multisite? (8 posts)

I'm interested in offering each user their own blog.
However, I am not looking to set up a multi-domain/hosting setup.

In other words, I am looking to set up a site which has one domain, but have a function which allows users to set up their own blogs as extensions to that domain.

    So for example...

    /user1/mydomain.com or http://www.mydomain.com/user1

Doesn't matter to me which other than the first probably needs DNS updates all the time.

Anyhow, just wondering if there are any plugins/addons which would give users their own complete blog while not going the route of a multisite or network version.

PS: The site is running a number of BuddyPress addons but if needed, I could rebuild it without.

    Thank you kindly.

just wait, i'm sure someone will give you a better answer.

Thanks very much for the input. However, that's not quite what I'm looking for.
What I need is an addon that would allow me to give all users on the one single domain site, their own blog/editing tools etc, everything but admin functions.
Each user should be able to enable their blog if they wish, without needing to install any other copies.

There is such a thing for joomla, in fact, it's a single instance of WP which allows all of the above for users. I'm wanting to use WP as the main site instead of joomla.

It's not a network that I need, it's a single install which allows all users to have their own blog tools

Hahaha, the MU version actually seems to do everything that I'm looking for.

Weird that I didn't read that page first.

Anyhow, the combination I was looking for was WPMU, directory based along with a number of plugins which aren't MU for the main site.

    Thanks for the input.
