 * I feel like the dumbest person ever. I’m sorry if I’m asking a terribly simple
   question – I’m just not all that technical.
 * I uploaded everything, installed with no problems. Now when I go to my site,
   IE downloads the file and displays it in WordPad – not in the browser window
   itself. It does it on all three computers in my home, and also on my machine
   at work.
 * I can log into the admin panel and do anything I wish – switching styles doesn’t
   fix it – unfortunately, I’m just at a loss for the next step.
 * Thoughts? Help?

 * I’m able to view it in Opera, Firefox, Safari, and IE (Mac).

 * Run /wp-admin/upgrade.php .

 * Are you double clicking on the file on your hard drives or actually typing in
   the URL (`http://example.com/wordpress/` or whatever)?
 * Double clicking on the index.php file from your hard drive will bring up a notepad
   text file. Put in the address into your browser and see what you see then.

 * Nah, he (or she) just needs to run /wp-admin/upgrade.php . If you don’t, IE (
   on Windows) will download all WordPress files instead of viewing them.

 * I know, but sometimes people say one thing and mean another and this could also
   be one of the problems. Just covering the bases and a few other body parts to
   help.

 * If running upgrade.php doesn’t work, you might want to check index/directory
   services for your site. On a shared host, it may be accessed by the control panel.
   Specify index.php as a valid default.
 * I had the same problem. I have my site setup so that you cannot get a directory
   listing by just typing in the path to the directory (if an index or default page
   is not specified). I had to add index.php as a valid default.
