If 20 megabytes is too much database use, Relevanssi is not the right tool for you. That’s a small Relevanssi database table; Relevanssi can easily require a hundred megabytes or more.
Look for a cloud-based search solution, as those don’t take up any database space on your site. Algolia is one of the best, I hear, and it has good features designed for online stores.

No, it won’t work at all. Hence my original suggestion: if storing an index on your own database is impossible, you need a SaaS search that stores the index outside your site.
