Index page with photos and category links

I would like to create a recipes page on my site http://carrotsandclaret.com
with a link going to another page listing all quick recipes for instance and another listing all gluten free recipes etc, these will go to another link and finally once the recipe is chosen will go to that recipe page. At the moment I have them on the drop down menu but these are getting too long! I would also like to have photos on that page that can be linked to their specific recipes, its this possible? I dont know any code! I have to do it the simple way.
