Increasing page load time?

    When I check my sites in GT metrix waterfall I can see that favicons are loaded last and add another 1.2 seconds to the page load (almost doubling page load time). I see the same on a second site where I use favicon generator, but not on my wordpress.com site, where the “site icon” function manages to provide favicons which work without a late load (at least in apple environments which is all I have checked)
