    Hi team,

We’ve recently moved over to AWS server on Cloudways.

Since then, we have noticed an increase in false positives – with many of our customers form submissions being marked as spam and not coming through.

On these, we’ve noticed the “*** Forbidden. Please enable JavaScript. ***” within the Request Details information. (Not sure whether that was previously the case or not, but adding in case it is important.)

Any ideas on why the number of false positives have increased dramatically lately?

Happy to share any more data you require.

    Kind regards,

    Luke

    Hello @lukekowald.

We need to look at the requests from your site to understand what the reason is. Could you tell us the name of your site or its Service #?

(You can find Service # here: your CleanTalk dashboard → the “Settings” button under your site name).

    Hello, @eugenecleantalk
Yes, I have detected different WordPress websites with Clean Talk services, in the same situation of false positives. It’s been happening since Oct 03, 2023 07:32:21 (At least)
    WordPress 6.3.1
    Anti-Spam by CleanTalk Version 6.19.1

    Thanks

    Hello @gesdi.

We need to know your Service # too. Could you write it?

    Hello, @eugenecleantalk

Service #983417 I have deactivated the plugin until the resolution of this ticket.

Service #608833 At the moment the plugin is still active.

    Thanks!

    Hello @gesdi,

Could you, please change the following Anti-Spam plugin option:

Use Anti-Spam by CleanTalk JavaScript library to On.

The Anti-Spam plugin settings are here:

WordPress Admin Page —> Settings —> Antispam by CleanTalk

Please, don’t forget to purge your website cache if you use any.

After that, contact us, so we can test the form.

    Kind regards.

Example, in Service #1330619 I try to change the configuration, but it does not allow saving it, it stays blocked.

    Appears the next message:

Synchronization process failed. Please check the access key and restart the synch.

Data synchronization with the cloud. Typically, it takes a few seconds.
“Sincronización de datos con la nube. Normalmente, tarda unos segundos.”

    I’m trying to activate:
    Use the WordPress HTTP API
But it does not allow saving, the blocking message appears and it does not allow making changes to the plugin configuration.

I have restarted the plugin and now it has allowed me to make the change.

    Thanks,

With the suggested changes and the reconfiguration everything works well again.
I have performed a form submission test and it sends them correctly.
    Thank you so much!

    Hi @eugenecleantalk ,

Further to the false positives, we are also getting some heavy server usage from CleanTalk plugin, which is negatively affecting/crashing our website.

One of the items is the following SQL query:

    UPDATE grxxxxx_options SET option_value = ‘1696463845’ WHERE option_name = ‘cleantalk_cron_last_start’ │ 101.262s │ 8

Which takes 1 minute and 41 seconds to run.

We are getting a lot of 503 database connection errors on our site, along with “Connection timed out 522 error” and “A timeout occurred 524 error”.

We look forward to hearing back at your earliest with regard to this.

Let me know if you need anything further from our end.

    Regards,

    Luke

PS. Our hosting company also noted there has been a higher number of hits on cleantalk “│ /wp-json/cleantalk-antispam/v1/alt_sessions │ 4696 │”. I’ve tweaked a couple of small settings within CT, but look forward to your expert assistance on this one, to resolve the issues being experienced. Thank you.

    Hello @lukekowald,

    Please, do the following:

    • WordPress Admin Page → Settings → Anti-Spam by CleanTalk → Advanced settings →
    • → set the option “Use AJAX for JavaScript check” to “Off” →
    • → set the option “Set cookies” to “Off” →
    • → set the option “Add a CleanTalk Pixel to improve IP-detection” to “Off” →
    • → disable the options Anti-Flood and Anti-Crawler
    • → enable the option “Async JavaScript loading” → Save Changes.

Then clear all cache on your website.

    Did it help you?

    Hi @serge00 ,

    Thank you for your recommendations.

I have implemented them, cleared cache and will monitor and let you know if we are still experiencing issues with 503 database erros, 522 and 524 server errors, etc.

Have you found out any further casue for the recent increase in false positives?

    Best regards,

    Luke

As we see the issue might be in the cache lifespan. It can be configured in the Cloudflare account:

Could you check it on your side?
