I seem to be having a problem a few other people seem to be having. I am getting the plugin’s default images showing instead of the posts own thumbnail when showing the related posts.
Also, using the plugin Related Posts by Zemanta seems to break my site so I can’t use that as an alternative.
Hey, thanks for reaching out!
I would gladly help you out, but I would really need a bit more info to start with, to be honest — is there a chance you could send me the link to the blog in question?
I’d love to take a closer look at it, if possible. Thanks!
I’m looking forward to your reply! Take care!
If you update any post, plugin will still show random image from plugins folder, or old one that you have to this post.
Also, I was looking to change thumbnail which is used, I have custom thumbnail size, where I should change default thumbnail name?
Hey @lapanwebsite, sorry for my late reply!
Is there a chance you could send us the link to the blog in question, so that we could have a closer look?
Also — changing the size of your thumbnails is now possible, with the latest version of our plugin (v3.2).
Here’s a simple tutorial on how to achieve that, if you decide to give it a go: http://zem.si/1b0jieM
Let me know what you think or if you have any more questions! Take care & have a nice day!
barrowr, version 2.7 works on my site (stubbornthings.org), but anything beyond that version and it screws up the icons. They all go generic. I’ve yet to see a fix for this.
Hi silvoslaf, I have the same problem. My posts have an image but RP shows my generic image for most links. See here http://webandITstudio.com
Hope you can find a problem.
Sorry I haven;t got back to you sooner, I wasn’t notified of a reply to my original posting.

Have you guys tried regenerating thumbnails? That sometimes clears things up.
Yes tried regenerating thumbnails with no difference.
Could be that you’re using a some Cache plugin? If yes, try refreshing the cache.
we updated our plugin and introduced some thumbnailer fixes that might solve your problem with thumbnails. I strongly suggest you update the plugin on your blog and give it a try.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
I think I figured out what is going on, but let me ask you a few questions first…
1. Where do you get images that appear after the post title? Do you use some special plugin to generate thumbnails for featured images on the front page?
From what I can see they’re thumbnails loaded from temporary folder
wp-content/uploads/et_temp/and don’t have the same attributes set as other images in your post and hence we cannot figure out which was the original image nor find the thumbnail of the original image.
2. Were these images added later to existing posts?
For example, this post has related-post thumbnail, but it was not generated from the first image in the post, but the second one. That made me think you added the first image later.
There are two things you can do right now:
- Remove first (problematic) image from posts without thumbnail, update the post, let our plugin generate the related post thumbnail from other image, that was added to the post through Media Library. Afterwards you can add the (problematic) image back.
- Upload thumbnail images that were generated for featured posts to Media Library and add them to your post through the Library, this way our plugin will be able to get attachment id and find/generate proper related post thumbnail.
I know it’s not perfect solution, but it might work until we figure out how to deal with this rather specific issue.
hope you don’t mind, we’ll mark this topic as resolved as there was no response from original author for more than a month.
