Hi there, I have a strange situation here. Just started and published my first few posts (truephotoself.com) in the order I want them to appear on the home page. However, upon publishing my latest post (202), the first post (101) jumps out of place on the Home Page.

When I noticed, I unpublished them all, checked the “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” option and scheduled them to publish a minute apart just to make certain the datetime stamps were all in order. But still the same problem.

Here’s what I’ve deduced. The Menu / Category pages work just fine. When I unpublish my latest post, the correct order is re-established. And when I publish it again post 101 is in the incorrect order. I’ve taken my latest (202) post apart bit by bit and discovered that when I publish it without a feature image the ordering of the 101 post is all fine. When I add back the feature image in 202, the order of 101 goes out of whack again. I don’t know if some spurious tags have gotten introduced somewhere?

    Any suggestions appreciated! Thank you!

It sounds to me like your theme is set up to order posts with featured images differently. To see if I’m right, you could temporarily switch to one of the default themes. If the post-ordering is then correct (by time published) then you’ll know it’s something to do with your theme.

If that test points to your theme as the issue, you might check your theme’s settings (Admin > Appearance > Customize) to see if there is a user-configurable setting for it. If you don’t find anything, posting on your theme’s support site might get you more information.

Hi there, many thanks indeed for your kind reply. I can certainly give that a try, but I’m wondering though since each of the posts on there (there only are six) all have featured images, wouldn’t they all be out of published order then?

They were all ordered fine and all had feature images until the last post was published which oddly knocked just the first published post out of order?

    Kind regards to you 🙂

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought only the post out of order had a featured image. That is very strange. I would still test with a default theme in order to determine if the problem is theme-related or due to WordPress itself.

Hi there, thanks again for your information. Yeah, definitely something going on with the theme (OceanWP Child). It’s fine on tablet/mobile, the incorrect ordering alters too depending on the number of columns on the home page yikes! Lol. I’ll take your advice and post on the theme’s support site. Thank you again! Kind regards to you 🙂
