# Incorrect (old) version number in wordpress/wp-includes/version.php

 * I discovered that the $wp_version variable in version.php is set to ‘2.5’. I’m
   actually running 3.71, and haven’t been on 2.5 since it was current.
 * What would cause this to not get updated, and does it even matter? (I only found
   this when I was grep’ing for some related text.)

 * One or more bad 1-click updates?

 * Yes. Try:
    – switching to the default theme. – deactivating **all** plugins. –
   backing up your database. – re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the
   wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a **fresh**
   download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder
   before uploading the new ones. – running an upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.
