# Incorrect Captcha error message

 * When visitors/users try to comment on posts on our website they get this message:
 * “You have entered an incorrect CAPTCHA value. Click the BACK button on your browser,
   and try again.”
 * But there isn’t even a Captcha field in the first place.

 * Any ideas as to why this is happening? My knowledge of wordpress is very basic.

 * Perhaps the captcha is being added by your theme or a plugin. Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is 
   currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress
   asap.
