Support » Plugin: Cloudflare » Incomplete update from 3.0.4?

CloudFlare plugin updated 3.0.4 –> 3.0.5 but its interface shows 3.0.2.

I can only think of it as funny. I run a dozen WP websites on the same shared hosting, all with the CloudFlare plugin. Nearly all of them updated correctly from 3.0.3 to 3.0.5. The single site that briefly had 3.0.4 did not update the plugin correctly. After update is run, version number appears as “3.0.5” on the plugin list, but the plugin interface displays 3.0.2 and its functionality is that of 3.0.2.

I tried everything: deleting the plugin, reinstalling from WordPress, reinstalling manually from zip, again deleting plugin folder via FTP, cleaning the database from anything CF-related, again reinstalling. In vain. I still see “3.0.2” and no “Automatic HTTPS Rewrites”.

Not that the plugin does not work; it does. But I’d prefer to be sure everything works as expected.

Anyone has an idea where the bug could be?

  • Hi,

My assumption is its cached. If you look at wp-content/plugins/cloudflare/config.js is “version”:”3.0.5″?

What happens if you clear your browser cache and reload the page?

    Thanks,
    John

config.js shows 3.0.5. But it is not browser cache: the problem occurs even in an incognito browser window. I also made sure to delete all caches – I have WP Super Cache, so I even disabled caching.

I have very similar configuration on the other sites, where there are no problems – the issue occurs only on the one instance upgraded from 3.0.4

    @jwineman

None of the admin backend should be cached.

Check in Plugins > Editor > Select Plugin to edit > Cloudflare

It should show as Version: 3.0.5

    https://github.com/cloudflare/CloudFlare-Wordpress/blob/master/cloudflare.php#L6

When he mentioned the “plugin interface” I assumed he meant the version at the bottom of the single page app located on wp-admin/options-general.php?page=cloudflare. This version is pulled from config.js.

@lukecavanagh brings up a good point though – where specifically are you seeing the incorrect version number?

    Thanks,
    John

It shows 3.0.5, and it still shows the 3.0.2 dashboard.

Yes, backend should not normally be cached.

I will do further tests tomorrow – it’s nearly midnight down where I am. But I also saw the CF plugin leaving quite a few DB entries after uninstalling, so might try to follow on this.

It’s somewhat annoying cause the problem is on our main site…

I will gladly create site credentials (with restricted permissions) if needed. Tomorrow.

    Hi @kashmiri,

But I also saw the CF plugin leaving quite a few DB entries after uninstalling, so might try to follow on this.

If you deactivate the plugin, it should delete all the DB entries related.

It shows 3.0.5, and it still shows the 3.0.2 dashboard.

You can learn if a resource is cached by following the steps in this post

I’d suggest you to purge cache by URL for [yourwebiste]/wp-admin/* uri.

@kashmiri assuming you tried to purge cache, can you delete and reinstall the plugin?

I did reinstall several times, including deleting /wp-content/plugins/cloudflare and manually cleaning the database.

I guess I should wait until the next release. I will also try downgrading to version 3.0.3 and then going directly to 3.0.5, will let you know.

    Hi @kashmiri,

We’ve released version 3.0.6. Try to download this version. If you still have problems please let us know. Thanks.

I updated from 3.0.5 to 3.0.6. The plugins list page shows that I have 3.0.6 installed, but the cloudflare plugin settings page appears to be running 3.0.5. It says “Version: 3.0.5” and I still see the old cloudflare logo.

This is on a site with no object caching.

If this is an issue of your own javascript being cached either in the browser or in the cloudflare cache, then I think you should really come up with some kind of cache-busting strategy to make updates not require users to do anything to purge.

Hi @furkan811, update worked and the plugin now shows 3.0.6 both on its dash and in the plugin list. Thanks!

@pjv I agree with you. The problem was indeed browser and edge side caching. We’ve a fix for that in the next release.

@kashmiri glad to hear. If you have any feedbacks/requests/problems for Cloudflare WordPress Plugin feel free to contact.

    Thanks
