# Incomplete page

 * Can someone help me?
    I have an existing web site and I want to change to WordPress
   for the site content and default page. My plan was to install WordPress, get 
   the content to where I need it, and then switch from the current index.html to
   index.php for WordPress.
 * I’ve installed WordPress in the root directory but renamed index.php to index2.
   php so WordPress won’t show until I’m ready.
 * But when I bring up index2.php the default template displays but where the postings
   would normally be there is an Error 404.
 * Is`there a better way to accomplish the cutover than what I described and if 
   so, how?

 * _renamed index.php to index2.php _
    That will not work.
 * Yes, there is better way. Do NOT install WP where you have/need to have an index.
   html file. It will not work.
 * Install it in a subdir, transfer the content, make sure everything works.
    Then
   you will have 2 options: 1. [Moving_WordPress](http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress)
   2. [Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory](http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory)
