    Hi

First off; this is an incredible resource. A great way of getting content across. I’m posting this cry for help, then off to leave a 5* rating 😉

I am having an issue with displaying stories to visitors. In my mind, I’m picturing a ribbon of stories. But I can’t for the life of me see how to implement. How can I call in the stories via shortcode or even amend the templates? At the moment I’m using the plugin shortcodes for amp web stories, but it’s not ideal.

Related, but separately: am I missing a “close” link on the stories. When they open in the same tab there’s no in page return that I can see. In the absence of close, is there any way to open in a lightbox?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there,

Great to hear you’re liking Web Stories so far. This is a great question!

Since we’re just getting started with this plugin, the possibilities for embedding stories in the rest of the website are currently a bit limited, but growing!

At the moment there are three ways to embed/discover stories:

    • Single story shortcode (example: [web_stories_embed url="https://thestudybuddy.com/web-stories/why-wont-my-son-revise-for-his-gcses/" title="Why won't my son revise for his GCSEs?" width="360" height="600" /])
    • The “Web Stories” Gutenberg block
    • The /web-stories/ archives page

We are actively working on expanding this to:

    • Build more blocks to display your latest stories or a selection of your favorite ones
    • Add an API for themes and developers to display stories anywhere they want
    • Allow customization of the archives page
    • Enable more layouts like a stories carousel, a grid layout, and even a circles layout like on other platforms
    • Allow the option to open stories in a lightbox (with a close button!)

So as you can see, we are eager to support use cases like yours, but it’s still work in progress at the moment.

We should have an update on this in the next 1-2 months or so.

Hi @swissspidy thanks for the speedy and comprehensive reply. I get that this is new and looking forward to the tweaks and enhancements you’re all going to be making. If you need/want use cases for any future feature planning, or beta testers for the new functionality I’ll happily add my name to the list!
