Version 3.9 of Events Calendar and version 4.1 of WordPress installed with all other plugins disabled. Everything working fine until I view a specific event listing at which point my main site menu becomes inactive in browsers other than Explorer. Everything working fine with IE8 but if I change to Safari or Chrome I can not select any menu items while viewing an event listing and the “back” button must be used to get back to the calendar page. Just beginning development of this site but you can view the problem here – http://www.omspa.ca/events/

Did some extra testing on this and it’s a conflict with the Pilcrow theme but I don’t know why. Set up a new install of WP 4.1, an unaltered version of Pilcrow theme, and events calendar as the only plugin and the problem persists. Change themes to 2012 or another popular choice and the menu works fine from the event listing page. I have notified the developer but no resolution yet.

The Pilcrow authors seem to feel the conflict is with Events Calendar (of course they do). Any thoughts on this one? I really don’t want to have to change my theme or Events Calendar (you’ve done a great job on this plugin).

It sounds like they are right, there is simply a conflict between the theme and plugin. This does not necessarily mean either is “at fault”. Conflicts can arise when both do everything they should, they are simply ignorant of the other’s requirements.

It sounds like you have two options:
    1) Try to narrow it down to see if you can fix. Typically this is done with a PHP and JS debugger, and by commenting our or otherwise disabling chunks of code from one of the two until things work, then narrowing it down from there until you zero in on the culprit.

    2) Employing something who is skilled at step #1 to do this for you.

I wish I had better news Bryan. Hopefully the above helps you figure out what to do next though. Cheers!
