Support » Plugin: Very Simple Meta Description » Improper HTML in version 3.1

When I check the box titled “Use custom post excerpt as meta description” the resulting meta tag contains HTML markup, which causes layout errors in my pages. Here is an example:

    <meta name="description" content="It's like a pattern or something...&hellip; <p class="more-link"><a href="http://cutetropolis.com/2016/09/25/eye-blink-theyre-trying-to-tell-us-something/">Continue reading <span class="meta-nav">&rarr;</span></a></p>" />

When I uncheck “Use custom post excerpt as meta description” all of the above markup disappears, so your plugin must be the one inserting it.

  • I just upgraded to version 3.2 of this plugin and the problem still persists.

    Hi,

Sorry for the late response. Don’t understand I didn’t see your topic before.

It should get the default post excerpt (summary) of each post (but only if set).
If not set, it might be a conflict with something else…

Did you set an excerpt for that post?

    Guido

Yes, I did set an excerpt for the post. What I think you are seeing in the sample above is the excerpt complete with the “continue reading” link that would appear with the excerpt on an archive page.

    Hi,

    2 things can cause this:

This might be a conflict with another plugin. In your sourcecode I notice you’re using another plugin for meta description as well: Jetpack.

And you’re sure you did not add a readmore link in the excerpt itself?
