Support » Installing WordPress » import/server permissions

  • I’m a newbie so please bear with me!
I’ve just installed WP 2.2 with no errors on the install. I can write posts. I currently have a wordpress hosted blog and I’d like to import the blog. I generated the xml file according to instructions and then tried to import. I then get an error asking if ‘is its parent directory writable by the server?’. I’ve checked the ftp permissions and everything is OK. I can put the files in place by external ftp, but then can’t do anything with them. If I try to import from within the wordpress install having put the files in place manually at /wp-content/uploads/2007/08, I get an error saying the files can’t be moved.
    What do I do??

  • ok, sorted it out by chmod 777. Is there a list anywhere of exavctly what modules need 777 permission? I’m nervous leaving the whole thing as 777
