 * Hi,
 * I’m trying to move my blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org.
    I exported my
   blog to a XML file and have WordPress set up on with my host. But when I import
   my XML file that I’ve saved to my computer from the WordPress dashboard it uploads
   the XML file as a TXT file, with the end of the file name as xml_.txt It also
   uploads one JPG file, and that’s it. If I try and upload it again, it uploads
   the XML file as another TXT file and another JPG file.
 * Can anyone help me with this please? Is it a problem with the WordPress Importer?
 * Thanks for any help folks..

 * I use the Importer all of the time and it’s working just fine. How _exactly_
   are you importing the .xml file?

 * I log into my WordPress account, go to the dashboard and click on Tools>Import;

   Then WordPress, I choose my XML file from where I’ve save it previously and then
   click ‘Upload and import’ The XML file is uploaded as a TXT file, and it also
   uploads the 1st JPG image from the first post I wrote when my blog was on WordPress.
   com If I try to upload it again, I get another xml_.txt file and another JPG
   image. I wonder if I kept importing it would I eventually get all the media uploaded,
   and then just delete the xml_.txt files? Although that obviously seems like a
   very unorthodox method!

 * Ok, I uploaded the XML file again, only this time I didn’t tick the ‘Download
   and import file attachments’ box.
    The posts all uploaded, but the blog is in
   a bit of a mess, and obviously none of the JPG files uploaded. I was using the
   Oxygen theme, so i’ve installed that again. But it still look nothing like it
   did before I started the process of moving from WordPress.com None of the Widgets
   or columns were uploaded, although the tags and comments and categories were!

 * What domain name were you using on your wordpress.com site when you created the
   export file?
    What domain name are you using on your self-hosted site now?

 * So you are trying to import content from lifeoutforeign.com to lifeoutforeign.
   com. Can you see the problem here?

 * Hey, sorry for delay in replying. I’m afraid I don’t see the problem. As I understand
   it, it should be possible to import a blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org

   Anyway, eventually it imported all the images, but they were imported one at
   a time. As in I had to go through the import process repeatedly until all the
   images were imported. I also had to set up the page pretty much from scratch
   as the widgets and so on weren’t imported either. But I presume that’s somewhat
   normal as wordpress.org uses plugins more than widgets..
 * Anyway, thanks for you help.
 * Regards, Conor

 * I installed the php-xml package in the Linux server and it solved my problem.
 * $:> yum install php-xml
    $:> service httpd restart
 * Hope it helps someone in the future.
