 * Hi, I am very new to the blogging world and don’t always have the right terminology,
so please forgive me. I started a blog 1 year ago and plan to end it in a few
months. I bought the domain name and hosting from Go Daddy. It is time to renew
it and I didn’t realize that If I don’t pay for hosting, the website will be
deleted. I don’t want to work on the blog anymore, but I wanted to be able to
view it and have it as a memory. Someone suggested transferring it into a free
wordpress blogspot format. (I believe that is the difference between wordpress.
com and wordpress.org?) Is this possible and how do I do it? What other options
do I have if I just want to be able to see the posts and pictures I made during
   this year?
 * Thanks in advance.

 * Sure, just follow this guide: [https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/](https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/)
 * You can also map your domain to that WordPress.com blog following this guide:
 * To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different
   entities: [https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com](https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com)
 * WordPress.com has complete documentation and support contacts at [https://support.wordpress.com/](https://support.wordpress.com/)
 * Alternatively, you can always view a copy of the site at the Internet Archive:

 * Thank you! Do I need to map the domain to the wordpress.com blog? If I choose
that route, I still need to renew the domain name with go daddy, but just not
   the hosting is that right?
 * If I want to avoid paying any money, could I just go to wordpress.com and see
   if [http://www.inloveinlondon.wordpress.com](http://www.inloveinlondon.wordpress.com)
is available and create that and then move the files over to that?
 * Will this only work if my theme is supported by or compatbile with wordpress.
   com?
 * Thanks!

 * You don’t need to map the domain, you can keep the free [blog].wordpress.com
domain. If you do map the domain, you still need to annually renew the domain
   registration through GoDaddy.
 * You can use any of the themes found at [https://wordpress.com/themes](https://wordpress.com/themes)
on your WordPress.com blog. I don’t see Themify (the theme you’re using) available
there, but there are 197 free themes to choose from, so I’m sure you’ll find
   something good. 🙂

 * Thanks! When I go to wordpress.com and claim my blog name, should I continue
with the rest of the steps like choosing a theme right then? Or should I just
choose the name and then import my blog and choose a theme after?
 * When choosing a theme, should I look for something that is visually similar?
Or should I just pick something that has the same features as my previous theme?
 * Do you recommend backing up my blog before doing any of this? Where can I find
instructions on how to do that?
 * Thanks so much for your help!

 * Might as well choose a theme first, plus it’s also super-easy to change after
   too. 🙂
 * Choosing a theme is a personal thing, pick the one you really want. Maybe you
want to get as a close to the current site as possible, or maybe now’s the time
to mix things up a bit. 😉
 * You won’t need to backup your existing site right now, as it’s not going anywhere,
you’re just exporting its content, and importing it elsewhere.
 * When you’re ready to close your existing site though, I highly recommend holding
on to a backup copy, and here’s how you can do that: [https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups](https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups)
