Support » Fixing WordPress » Importing previous WP database

  • I’ve searched but I can’t find anything on importing a wordpress database, just all the other blogging stuff.

I am using the current WP, but when I installed the last time, I started with a brand new database because I wanted to put it in a new directory.

Is there any way for me to import the old blog database posts into my new blog database? These are two separate databases in two separate directories.

I have also searched the codex but I’m not finding anything I understand too well, so I don’t know that any of it applies to what I want to do here.

Is there a simple way (or any way) to do this?

    Thanks for any help.

“These are two separate databases in two separate directories.”

Do you want them to stay apart, or be merged ?
The first is easy, the second far from easy…

I just wanted them to be added (merged) into the current, newer database as old posts. But I can keep the separate database too if it works in the same way, e.g., archives 2005, archives 2004.

I’m just concerned that it would bring up the old layout and directories, etc., so I guess I’m looking for the difficult way 🙂

    Hi Jafer,

If you would like to email me I will talk you through it 🙂

Ok, I’ll email you shadow – what’s your email address? I was looking for it at your site (which I see you’ve changed again 🙂 – but I couldn’t see it there.

Or even your messenger if you’re on msn – we could do a real time help thing if you’re into it.

Alrighty – I’ve emailed away. Thanks very much.
