Support » Fixing WordPress » importing old posts from MySql

  • Hi all,
I was wondering if it was possible to import old WP posts from a .sql file. I ran my blog in WP, switched to MT, and am now back (to stay) with WP. I have the .sql file from my old, backed-up WP site, and want to integrate those old posts into my new WP site.

    Any suggestions?

Oh, btw, the .sql is enormous (range wise), it has close to 2 years of posts on it.

  • You’d probably have to run an sql query on the appropriate table in the current install. You’d do best to keep each query under 500 lines – I’ve had anything over 800 lines on a phpBB table choke and die, though I’ve not tried anything that large in WP. BACK UP EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE DOG BEFORE YOU START!

If it were me, I’d copy the whole damn shootin’ match to another folder on my site, then try it on THAT one first.
