I got the “white screen of death” after a server hacking. Fortunately, my database was untouched and I was able to back it up using PHPmyAdmin. I did a new WordPress install and tried to set the wp-config to the old database — still blank screen and no source code.
So I created a new directory and figured I could point the old database — no luck. I created a new database and figured I could import my posts as a CSV. I used the CSV Importer plugin and got the “most likely due to empty title, body and excerpt” error.
To be clear: all I really want to do is grab the old posts because that content will be used in a book I’m writing. The blog has been untouched for a couple of years, so I’m wondering if I need to do something to the database backups to meet compatibility with WP 3.2.1. If I can just see and capture the posts/comments, then I’m happy.
Wondering if anyone out there has run into problems with any of the following: pointing new WP sites to old databases; importing old posts to WordPress using CSV Importer, swapping databases on existing WP sites, or general “white screen of death” issues. Solutions to any of the above will resolve my issue.
Thanks much in advance for any feedback.
