I recently started a new blog with a new wordpress installation and theme and all has been going well. I finally decided it was time to import all the post from my old site over to the new domain to get everything in one place. I’ve managed to export from the old blog and get the posts imported and all seems to be just great. What i’d like to do now is redirect the old blog to the new blog using a 301 and then remove the old content as to not receive any negative SEO for having duplicate content. The problem i think i’m running into is the original blog was in a subdomain (www.melissabeckphotography.com/blog) and the new site is on the same domain (www.melissabeckphotography.com). I’ve installed the redirect plugin and set it up to no avail. Ultimately I’d like anyone going to the old blog to be redirected to the new blog and any links to specific posts to be redirected to the post on the new blog. Clear as mud?
I’m sure I’ve got something setup incorrectly, but I’m not sure what. To be honest I’m not even sure if what I’m attempting is the correct way to make the switch. Any input would be much appreciated.
