• So, mama’s got a brand new blog. Nothing in it. Naked as the day it was born.
I’m ready to graduate to a real blog from being a LiveJournal user for over two years. However, I’ve spent hours tonight fiddling with the import-livejournal.php file and uploading it, along with putting the 2004-05.xml file right in the wp-admin directory where the import-rss.php file is located.
It’s not working. At all. I’m putting the 2004-05.xml value right in up at the top of the file.
I must be doing something wrong, but I had my husband, who’s a web usability professional with a master’s degree, look at it and he can’t see what’s wrong, either.
Could anyone please spell it out for me clearer than it is in the import-livejournal.php directions, ’cause I’m not understanding what to do and really need some help. If I can’t import my LJ posts, then my hosting will have been a waste of money, as the primary point of moving to a blog was to have control over my posted data.
    Sincerest thanks.

  • I haven’t done the LJ import thing, but I am working on my own version of it so that I can have WordPress and LJ synch up. I know it doesn’t help right now, but if no one else can help, then my version will do the trick when it is done.

That’s great to hear, unteins! Sounds like it would be very beneficial to many folks, and I for one say thank you for your efforts.
As for my issue, I found out that the problem existed between keyboard and chair. 😉 A good night’s sleep does wonders. For the record (and you’re all going to go “duh!” but I was really tired), don’t ask me how, but I had the file copy of the import-livejournal.php running in the browser instead of the live version on the site, where all the code had been installed, and was wondering why it wasn’t doing anything when I clicked “let’s go!” I know, I know — but I’m posting here, in case anyone else runs into the same issue. 🙂

I tried the LJ Autoupdate, but it’s giving me errors. I made sure to copy the new class-xmlrpc.php file, too. 🙁 Am hoping the authors will make a nice plugin for this for Mingus.

I know that there is the autoupadte hack already, but I am going to go beyond the hack.
Features I plan to include are:
    1) Support for the LJ mood and Music plugin I am writing
    2) Support for the LJ tags plugin I am writing
    3) Import of existing LJ Entries without having to do an XML export
    4) Import of new LJ entries after initial import (though this is NOT high on the list, since it is strongly suggested to use WordPress as a LiveJournal Client essentially)
    5) Updating of LJ posts when the source post in WorPress changes
    6) A clean plugin interface that doesn’t require editing any of the WordPress php files (except maybe the XMLRPC which seems to have a bug in it?)
    7) Comment import/export from WordPress to LJ. I am not sure how this will work, or exactly how I will do it (there is a problem with not being able to track where a comment came from which I am still mulling over)
That’s the todo list. Mood and Music plugin is almost done. I have finished most of the research on item 6, so I think I can achieve this. After that it is just implementing the XML-RPC calls to LiveJournal and I am done. There are a few more research items to finish, but it is all looking very doable right now.

Does any one know a good site to post up live journals!!!! Having a hard time finding one! Please help me! Email me at sunnyc111@yahoo.ca
