• I have moved my blog and installed 3.2.1 and a new theme. I have access to my old database still and have exported the posts table as an .xml file.

I used the backend Tools>Import to bring in my old posts, this hasn’t seemed to have any effect on my blog, although I have just seen that these are all in my new database, but not being brought into my blog.

Is there any known problems I might be encountering?

    Thanks

  • Hi There,

Could you find out if your new theme supports .xml format. I know sometimes Tools > Import does not work for certain themes because they do not support .xml format. What theme are you using by the way?

    Cheers!

Huh? The import is carried out by WordPress Importer plugin. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the theme.

Hmm, well I’m using Curvo if that’s of any use. Not sure if it would be

As this is a commercial theme, we cannot really help. You need to seek support from the theme vendors: http://themeforest.net/forums/topic/themeforest/themeforest

However, this isn’t a theme issue, in my opinion. That said, when carrying out a large import, it might be an idea to first switch to the Twenty Eleven theme and deactivate all plugins except the Importer plugin to minimise the site’s memory overhead. Can you see if the posts were successfully imported via your Admin area?

No my admin area shows no posts, but they all seem to be sat there in the database.

I just tried importing again and got this:

“Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”

Have you checked the topic that HostingUmbrella linked to?

Yep! Tried that, it was the same. Had 2 ‘?’ characters to remove from the first statement – got the same error upon importing.

I then found a thread stating that <wp:wxr_version>1.1</wp:wxr_version> might need adding in – this took me 1 step further, offered to import all post attachments.

It then confirmed they were all imported and told me to have fun! Still nothing in either database nor backend now though.

I did notice on a few similar threads that XML samples all showed a <channel> parameter whereas mine doesn’t have any mention of channels in.
