• Hello all, I have been racking my brains but totally stuck on this one.

Have just installed wordpress on a new domain and everything went smoothly. Created databases, etc.

WordPress seems to be working but for some reason the import function is not working correctly. Importing from http://tastesoflife.wordpress.com it is importing only posts up until september 25th, nothing later. The export from the blog was only created today so should have all posts. The filesize is only something like 250kb, so its not even exceeding the 2mb maximum.

One thing I should add is that when the import is complete and the next page loads it is only loading a blank white page, there is no confirmation or anything. So whether its a bug with the new wordpress version I don’t know.

    Please can you advise?

  • Keep trying to import the file. It should be on the page with a list of all entries and at the bottom say done. It can take a few minutes to complete. Don’t worry about duplicates because it will not import those 😉

Keep trying but it keeps failing. On trying in IE7 instead of firefox it gives a normal connection error page – page not displayed.

Still stumped. Even if its giving page cannot be displayed error it does not explain why it does not import posts after 25th sept.

What do your error logs have to say?

Error logs have nothing in them at all other than an error regarding lack of favicon, which I highly doubt would have anything to do with the problem.

I just tried the alternative method of import using RSS file and the same problem so I think this is a date issue. For some reason my blog will not accept anything after the 25th September. I have checked the blog date in the settings it states the correct date of today 22nd october.

Could be a php memory issue. Try increasing allowed memory.

Hi Otto, I have no idea about increasing php memory. Can you give me a pointer please?

Okay I have just found out something interesting. All the posts that are missing from that date were uploaded to wordpress from Windows Live Writer. Coincidence? Surely not.
I am now even more confused

Just a bit more information (this gets weirder), if I set one of the posts which doesnt import to have a date prior to 25th September, it imports fine. If I set the date to todays date it does not import. Yet I can post a brand new post with todays date.

If you go to your new blog, click on Options, and then scroll down, you’ll see some lines which give the current date and time. Those are the dates and times that your blog currently thinks it is.

Are they correct? If not, then your server has a mis-set date/time on it. Given what you just said, I’m thinking that it thinks it’s September 24th, and so your posts are going into “the future”, which means they won’t show up on the blog itself.

HI Again, the date is fine in the blog settings. As far as I know the server date is correct as I have another wordpress blog which works fine.

may try edit old ones, change/edit the date redump it.

What I have managed to do is on the original wordpress blog I have changed the date stamped on all posts to the 24th September, I have then exported the file again with the new dates and imported it into the new blog.

This means all posts now have a date of september 24th and nothing since then, but really that does not matter, the posts are now there and intact although a little out of the posting order.

I have tried putting the dates back to what they should be but this results in error pages when links are clicked on so I will just leave them as they are. As long as everything goes normal from now on its okay.

Would really like to know what the problem may be though, as none of it is making sense to lose a month.
