Support » Installing WordPress » Importing from WordPress.com after already importing from Blogger

  • I recently imported my Blogger blog into a self-hosted (with GoDaddy) WordPress blog. Unfortunately, using the Blogger importer resulted in an incomplete transfer, with about 40 posts missing, and only a tiny fraction of my comments were transferred (about 800 out of over 12,000). I couldn’t find any way to import my Blogger export (XML) file (why is this not an option?), but since you can do this in WordPress.com. I was able to completely transfer everything over into a free WP blog. My question is, can I now import from that free WordPress.com blog, after I’ve already imported from Blogger? Am I going to end up with duplicate content? If I only had a few posts, I wouldn’t care, but I have over 1100.

I am truly a beginner with WordPress, so I would really appreciate very clear, detailed instructions. Thanks so much!

    My site is http://wantingwhatyouhave.com/

Only if you delete the content you’ve already imported. Or, as you’ve correctly guessed, you’ll end up with a lot of duplicate content.

I’m using Blogger 301 redirects, but if I delete the posts imported from Blogger, and import my content from the free WP blog, won’t all the links be different? And then my SEO and Google rank and all that will suffer? I’ve worked hard at this blog for 4 years, so I really don’t want to lose everything.

I actually could just manually move the month’s worth of posts that I’m missing, but that won’t solve the problem of the ll000 missing comments.
