[resolved] Importing from old site to new (5 posts)

I have over 800 posts at http://www.vadirectory.net/blog/ and wish to shift all the posts to http://www.vadirectory.net.

I have two separate installations of WordPress, one in the root folder and one in the /blog/ folder. I've decided I want it all in the one place and the one theme so have decided to shift all the posts over to the main site.

I've run the import function 4 times now. The first time it imported 314 posts and then a few more each of the other times. It's got from all of 2010 and 2011 posts missing (I write every single week and sometimes 2-3 times a week) and it's now only importing about 3 posts at a time. At this rate it's going to take a long time to get done.

The file is only 5.4megs in size and I know it can do up to 8megs in size. I have plenty of webs pace for the transfer and I believe sufficient memory too. What could be causing it to do only partial imports?

Perhaps reading this codex guidelines and linked articles shall help:

If you cannot transfer the entire db at one go, you can try moving them in parts.

Thanks, but that won't suit. I have a fully operational website on the main domain with over 200 pages. So it's just the blog that I want to shift from the old folder of /blog/ to the root folder where all the pages and everything else resides.

I want the blog to have the same theme and not be treated as a subfolder of the main site. But thanks for giving a suggestion. I've seen many posts here with no responses so I'm kind of holding my breath hoping someone might come up with an answer.

You mentioned try moving in parts. Is there somewhere that tells me how to do that?

Ok, I've found the answer. My problem had been I was choosing 'all' and as a result I didn't know the feature was there to choose particular dates or authors. So I chose posts and then more fields opened up. I am now importing them a year at a time.

Note for others trying this, the file you download will be the same file name each time, so I've been renaming them by adding an a, b, c, just before the .xml so I know which one is which.

The posts are now exporting and importing fine and with 7 years of posts I really didn't want to lose them.

Glad to note that you could resolve the problem.
