Importing from movable type 3.3 to WordPress 3.1

    I am currently trying to import my 2000+ Movable Type (3.3.) entries to WordPress 3.1. I thereby want to keep the IDs (URLs) of the original MT permalinks (e.g. ../archives/002829.html). This somehow doesn’t seem to work.

    For importing from Movable Type, The WordPress FAQs refer to http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_from_Movable_Type_to_WordPress, which, however, was “written to accord with WordPress 2.0” and is now apparently obsolete.

    So, what am I to do?

    Any help is highly appreciated.
