Support » Plugin: WordPress Gallery Plugin - NextGEN Gallery » Importing Folders with Photos in “Gallery” folder not fully displaying on import

    I recently had to change my photo slideshow plugin and chose Next Gen. We have over 700 galleries so in an attempt to make it easier to recreate them over the many posts I moved all of the previous photo folders over to the folder that Next Gen uses to store it’s galleries that are created. I was hoping they would then pop up as available galleries to place in posts but they did not. I was at least hoping that I could use the Import Folder option, though when I open the folder it will not show all the folders contained within. Is there a way to get them to read as available galleries or at the very least have the import folder expansion show all folders available. Thanks.

    @slbradio-productions – The “Import Folder” option and feature set would have copied those folders into NextGEN Gallery and may be something to consider still.

    Otherwise, the process would require you create the gallery (name) within NextGEN Gallery which will create the necessary folder structure and “index” that gallery then copy your old gallery’s images into that folder, then use the scan for new images button to add them to the NextGEN Gallery references.

    I hope that helps to sort things out better.

    If you are still having trouble seeing the folders if you choose to “re-import” you may need to add the following to your wp-config.php file:

    define('NGG_IMPORT_ROOT', dirname(__FILE__) . '/');

    Thanks!

    I see, so it does not seem possible to get Nextgen to recognize the already created galleries without manually creating them and adding the photos.

    It almost seems that the window will not support showing so many folders as it seems to just cut the view off. Will the amendment to the wp-config.php file address that issue? Thanks!!

    @slbradio-productions – The define statement will provide a higher level access in the folder structure (basically to the root of the WordPress installation) although the window itself should allow you to scroll to see all of the folders in it.

    Thanks!
