Hi Karen, when you say end up being locked out. What exactly happens? Do you enter the wrong login details? Do you see an error message on your screent? Does your IP address end up in the black list?
Regards
Hi ?
I had to rename the plugin in file manager/cpanel
to be able to log in.
when I logged in, I went back to cpanel and
changed the name back…. and the page now
reads “oops, we cannot find what you are
looking for”
I deleted the plugin via cpanel and now cannot
log in = I just keep seeing the “Oops” page
another time, the page read “you do not have
sufficient permissions to login” and there
was no login form.
I’ve been round and round in circles with this
and do not remember the specific page warnings
I’ve seen… just there is always no login form
I’m just going to delete the whole thing and
start again…
I’d still appreciate knowing if there is something
specific in the settings that I should not set
before exporting.
thank you kindly for your help
Karen
I would suggest that you first clear all remnants of the AIOWPS config:
1) The first thing to do is deactivate the plugin via FTP by renaming the folder.
2) Also if you had activated any firewall rules, delete the AIOWPS rules by removing any code in between the tags:
# BEGIN All In One WP Security
# END All In One WP Security
3) Clear the “aio_wp_security_configs”:
i) log in to your DB using PHPMyAdmin.
ii) Go to the WordPress “options” table.
iii) Then look for the entry called “aio_wp_security_configs” and delete it.
This should clean out all config and you will be able to log in.
For point 2) I forgot to say that you remove those rules from the .htaccess file in case you were wondering.
Thank you for your very clear
directions….
I deleted the entire WP installation
and reinstalled….
However, I’m having interesting issues
now.
Reinstalled AIO and began the set up…
everything was fine until I enabled Brute
Force – changing he login url…
all of a sudden, everything I clicked on
brought up 404 error or page not found..
I could not log in….
Had to delete the plugin again….
guess I have to go back through your
destructions to see if I missed anything ;(
Thank you
I cleared up the issue and saved/exported
only the settings that were common to every
installation…
I installed these settings into new WP sites and
it worked perfectly…. for a couple of weeks.
I believe that there has been at least one WP
update and now, I’m getting the same issues…
404 error page and “page not found” login page
is hidden….
the only way to get back into my site is to
delete the plugin
It would be useful to know what settings to
save (or not save) for import/export success.
Hope that makes sense…
I love this plugin and the security it seems
to offer and I’m working on lots of different
sites so, being able to import at least part
of the settings is a real time saver.
Thank you
@kstavert this is really a trial an error action.
For example to avoid many issues I would not export any of the Firewall and Brute Force rules. Any other rule that has to do with an IP address I would not export either. I would also avoid the Database prefix as well.
Your best bet is to view the settings of one site. Do not include the options I mentioned above in your export file. Carry out a test on another site. If that works for you then that could be your starting point.
