Imported LJ posts display HTML

I discovered WordPress this week and have been playing around with it at home, looking forward to starting up a real blog. I’ve successfully used the import-livejournal.php page to import all of my LJ entries from last year into my WordPress database – trouble is, the HTML contained in the LJ posts has been converted to plain text… for example:
Original LJ post: Justin Timberlake’s ass!
Displays in WP as: <strong>Justin Timberlake's ass!</strong>
Any ideas on how to get my HTML code to import correctly?
