• Hi,
I’m migrating from Pebble to WordPress and I have a bunch of XML files that I need to convert into something WordPress can import. I’ve dug around on the web but I can’t see what I need, I looked at RSS but much of what I need to import doesn’t seem to be supported by the RSS spec.
I’d like to import as much data as possible but at a minimum title tags, category, date, body and comments. Could somebody point me in the direction of WordPress supported XML format I could convert my files into. I’ll make available whatever code I end up with.
Thanks in advance for your help
    Dave

  • Sadly the only documentation is the importer code. A sample or two would help if you can find some or generate them from a wordpress export. Last I looked, it’s not really parsed with an XML parser.

Yeah, I figured that might be the case, oh well… I’ll keep digging, guess I could create a live journal blog and then export from it…
    Any other ideas?

Ah ha, A WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) might be what I’m looking for. Could somebody with a WP blog create me an export file that I could use as a template?? Will keep looking for documentation of the format

Doh, I can create some fake posts and do it my self. Will let you know how I get on…

Contact me in email if you want a couple of WTF? exported WXR’s. Such problem children. They break all the XML parsers and WordPress importers rules unless you hand edit them.

Thanks, I’m getting there. I have managed to import all my posts. I’m going to work on pulling the comments in next. Just looking for a quick way to reset my blog to 0 posts now

delete the sql database and reinstall wordpress is the easiest way to start over.

    Hello Dave,

I have the same problem. Could you please post what you have done to solve it?

    Thanks,
    Yvonne
