Import Process – Complete Replacement or Simple Overwrite?

    Hi,

    I have a question about the way the import process works. Am I correct in assuming that existing files are not deleted prior to the import process?

    I had a case where I had made changes to my theme and removed a template that was messing with the template hierarchy. I exported the theme with the template removed and imported it to the production site but the template still persisted.

    Is this an expected outcome when importing over existing themes and plugins? Should I delete my theme or plugin before importing it to ensure that it is exactly the same as the exported theme?

    During import, the plugin restores the files inside the backup. Existing files will not be removed.
    When you are migrating a website, it is best to start with an empty WordPress.
