    Hi –

    I changed hosts today.
How do I import or move posts and categories from one WordPress installation to another?

    thanks in advance

There are some guides there which might help, starting with http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/move2/

Do keep backups of everything and do keep asking if you are unsure 🙂

    devils advocate,

Did you have any luck with this?

I want to do something similar but don’t see an option on the WordPress admin-panel IMPORT tab for importing from another WordPress blog.

If I could do this, it would save me a ton of, seemingly, unnecessary work.

I’ll try to check out the helpful links posted by podz but would appreciate a followup post if you figured some things out.

One thing I’m concerned about is losing comments, which seems to have been a problem with some others who have used WordPress’s import function….

I did the database export and re-import a while ago for about four blogs – this worked perfectly.

Takes a little more knowledge than just importing via the web – but //everything// comes across cleanly.

I installed the plugin for importing my blogs from external servers (blogger, wordpress.com, etc) to my own server with wordpress but it’s not working. It says that the CURL isn’t installed. I spoke to my web admin guy who installed Fantastico so I could install WordPress for me and he reinstalled CURL as it should have been there – he sent me the logs showing it was installed. But still I can’t get that plug in to work and it still says the same thing. So, where to next?

It’s a shame that a plugin allowing a user to import, via the web, past posts from Blogger and WordPress.com accounts exists, but there can’t be a similarly simple way to move posts from one personal wordpress blog to another.

    There is.

’tis a shame your search-fu is weak, grasshopper! I bet I paste this link at least twice a day 🙂 http://www.technosailor.com/wordpress-to-wordpress-import/

Bless you, HandySolo. Now if only I had a time machine….

Apparently my search-fu is VERY weak.

At least now I’ll know what to do if it comes up again for me or any of my friends.

    Thank you.

doh! Wish we could’ve caught you first. Ah well, as you say, next time.
