Support » Installing WordPress » import old WP db into new blog? b2posts to wpposts

  • Hi, I need to import my old WP blog onto a server. Everything is backed up and a-ok. However, I can’t get things to work.
First, I install the blog using the wp instructions/script.
Second, I execute the SQL statements necessary to import the old posts into the new database.
However, the new weblog only shows the opening post which came with the default install. What could be causing this? Should I have imported the SQL statements first and then ran install/upgrade?
BTW, I tried running the upgrade script, but it only does a one step success message (perhaps it’s upgrading the php statements, not the sql statements.
It looks like the old wordpress puts posts into the b2posts table, and the latest wordpress puts it into wpposts table. What’s the best way to fix this?
Why isn’t this something that works automatically? rj

  • I’ve read some suggestions about how to export the b2 tables into wp tables.
    migrating tables .
And I think I could try it (keep fingers crossed) . But I was wondering. Why wouldn’t the b2-migrate script not work? And at what point did wordpress start using different tables for their posts?

Try changing the table prefix in wp-config from wp to b2 and then run the upgrade script.

yeah, what is the name of the tables should not matter. its all in the backend. its not that WP will someday stop supporting b2 based tables!
