[resolved] Import Dynamic Widgets "Dump" to a new site (4 posts)

Thanks for the incredibly useful plugin!

I was wondering how I can import a Dynamic Widgets "Dump" into a new site, but I cannot find any information on this. Please could someone show me how to do this?

If it's not possible, is the best way to import/export the "dynamic_widgets" table from the WordPress database?

No, you can't import a dump. The dump file is basically used for debugging purposes when something goes wrong for a user.

Exporting the table and moving to another WP installation might look like an option, but I'm afraid it won't work completely. This is because DW heavily relies on WidgetIDs which are created by the WordPress system. Luckily those IDs are not completely random, but it's absolutely not something you can rely on when moving between WP installs.

Okay, thanks for the prompt information.

Feature request for import with Widget ID mapping/replacement? ;)

LOL! I'm afraid it will never reach the quality and reliability users of my products are used to. Basically because of the unpredictable Widget IDs.

There is actually another feature request made some time ago which might be helpfull I think when implemented. It's the ability to save a certain set of rules. So such a set can be quickly applied to other widgets. Adding an export/import routine to that would come close to your request I think. :)
