I have 3,000 records to import. As a test, I’ve only done 5. I have mapped the information correctly. Everything comes in fine except – when I go to the regions and I look at Texas – there should be a 2 there for the 2 entries imported, however… there is a 0. I’ve done it twice now and still… it will not add the cities to a region. My question now is – will it automatically set up a region if it’s not there? Or do I have to add in all 50 states in the Regions Module… and then they will show up?

    Hi mymothersdaughter,

The import will upload listing data, but Regions are expected to be pre-defined by you, and the import will match up the data to a “region” in the database. This is slightly different than category imports (where we can actually import the data up front). Regions require a hierarchy that is strictly defined, whereas categories can be imported and that information added later.

The regions module ought to have the 50 states in it, but you need to make sure that the imported data will match them via string. For example:

If you use the “stock” region module, you should have:

But if your import data has this for state:

This will not properly import. The data must match. So if you have abbreviations in the data, your regions must be updated accordingly. After that, the import should go more smoothly. But use small tests to verify, like you did (wise choice!)
