 * Hi, if the username of the author is in one of the XML file’s fields, is it possible
   to automatically assign that record to that author?

 * That’s not possible as the author needs to be a registered user with a username,
   password, and email id. You can import author name in single custom field.

 * Thanks very much for the speedy reply, yes the authors are already registered
   users with username, password and email ID – is this a feature you might be able
   to add?

    If the author is already a registered user, you can select
   the author in the “Post author:” dropdown. The below is the screenshot to select“
   post author”.
