Support » Plugin: AMP » NOSCRIPT img alt text in Google Serp

  • Resolved YuriV

Google is using the AMP-version of our site for indexing posts. We use Yoast SEO so we include pretty meta descriptions. We want them to be visible in Google and the right description-data shows up in the source code of our AMP-pages.

But recently we found out Google is showing the ALT-text from our first image as the SERP text. It seems the bot is using the alt-text of images in the <noscript> tag automatically created by the AMP plugin.

Is this a known issue? And any clue on what to do to make Google show the normal meta description in its search results?

    Thanks in advance,

Hi @yuriv, the descriptions you see in search are generated based on the content and various references in the markup of a document. The AMP plugin has no bearing on how it’s formulated, you can find out more on that here.

The alt value on images within the <noscript> tag is automatically generated from the alt value on your non AMP, so unless you are making changes specifically for AMP URLs that shouldn’t have any impact.

You can use the AMP Validator to preview URLs in search. I did some tests and I can’t find any problems on the URLs I tested. But send me an example and I can take a look for you. It might be more of a webmaster community forum topic.
