Support » Plugin: The SEO Framework » Images – to include or not in Site Map

  • Hi there,

Giving your system a try on one of our websites after seeing it featured on Elegant Themes Blog.

All great so far 🙂 Can I ask ref images.

Yoast used to include images on their site map….when it worked!!

Our site map doesn’t include images, just pages and posts.

Is there a reason why they aren’t included?
If not why? Out of interest.

I presume Google will still find images regardless of whether they are included in a site map.

Just curious if I’m doing something wrong or your system does this for a reason.

    Many thanks, Pete

    Hi @norfolkpete,

Your presumption is correct, and it’s the main reason why images are not included in the sitemap 🙂

Search engines gained many features over the years; we no longer need to feed them tags and other simple data. Instead, they now resemble real (advanced) web users, and you should focus on improved internal linking instead of using sitemaps.

To add onto this issue: all the advanced sitemap features are now completely replaced by Structured Data.
As for images, the Articles extension has got you covered in this regard.

    Hi Sybre,

Many thanks for the clarification, always good to be sure.

There is much conflicting info out there about site maps and images, more suggesting images on sitemaps are no longer a requirement.

Thanks for your time and the link to Articles extension. I’ll have a read shortly.

    Pete 🙂
