DSketch, this problem can be caused by several reasons:
1. your images were uploaded incorrectly;
2. the images were uploaded but not linked to correctly in the HTML ( (location of the images and your code references for each image can be incorrect).

Thanks for your reply. The images were visible one day and disappeared from homepage and category page the next day. I can still see the image on product page. If they were not uploaded correctly or linked correctly then they should not be visible on individual product page either.

This gets better. I can see the images on home and category pages when I am logged in as the admin. But otherwise the same images are not visible. Does it have to do something with any theme setting?
It actually sounds like it might be a permissions issue on the images. That’s very odd if the images are working properly on other pages for anonymous users.
where can I look for permissions?
Check your htaccess for permissions.
