Images not showing up in certain themes

Okay, hopefully someone out there can help me. I know next to nothing about WordPress, websites, and anything remotely technical. Here is my issue. I attempted to do a tutorial on WordPress that I found, which used the Vantage theme. However no images showed up when I attempted to use that theme- both default images and images I tried to upload myself. When I switch themes to Alizee, for example, any image I use shows up fine. This has also happened in other themes where I can’t upload any images. I would like to continue to use the Vantage theme so I can finish the tutorial. My WordPress and all plug-ins are updated and I deleted and re-installed the Vantage theme. That is as far as my scope of knowledge goes. If anyone replies, please pretend that I have the mental capacity of a kindergardener when it comes to technology stuff 🙂
