Images: Media Library/New Post/Page/Edit Tool Bar-Not Showing (8 posts)

15 blogs on shared hosting with Gator.

    2 of them are fine.

    13 of them:
The thumbnails in media library are gone.
The new post/page and edit tool bar little icons just show the box.

The images of new themes on the appearance page just show boxes.

I've searched all day. Tried all the fixes I can understand.
    Prob still exists.

Any other ideas before I throw this computer out the window?

Yeah my Media Library thumbnails are not showing in Twenty Ten theme either. On another site in F2 they show OK, same images, same directory type, I've tried all the suggestions in related threads, like creating wp-content/uploads, specifying put all uploads into this folder, deleting and re-uploading media, etc, but still no thumbnails. And when I go to Widgets and select Show Link Image and Show Link Name, it just shows text instead of the image, with the name next to it, therefore two copies of the same name, eg. Facebook Facebook instead of the icon and Facebook.
Nothing fancy has been done with this site or its files, still very new, no customizations, etc.

Trying a new picture upload today - same problem as yesterday. No thumbnails in Media Library and image does not display after being inserted into Post. Seems that the whole of Twenty Ten theme in WP 3.0.3 will not show images!!! Are you there Esmi? We need you!

    LOL! I'm being invoked!

Ok - usual stuff first, guys...

    - switch to the Twenty Ten theme if you're not using it already

    - reset the plugins folder - by PhpMyadmin, if you can possibly manage it.

    - try increasing the memory available to PHP:

@diannetrussell: Check your uploads path in Settings->Media.

    Further info:
I checked the directory structure in my cpanel. The website I'm working on is a Hostgator addon domain with its own files. Directory is: http://www.myaddondomain.com/public_html/myaddondomain.com/wp-content/uploads

I checked the Settings -> Media -> Store uploads in this folder. I typed in the actual path of the directory as it is in Cpanel: http://www.myaddondomain.com/public_html/myaddondomain.com/wp-content/uploads
I unchecked the "Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders" option to simplify things and cleaned up my cpanel directory accordingly. I deleted all the contents of the wp-contents/uploads in order to start off clean, and uploaded each image again via my WP Admin -> Media -> Add New.

I checked the link URL of the image I was trying to insert into the post, by looking at Edit Post -> Insert Image -> from Media Library - > Show -> Link URL.
    It is: http://www.myaddondomain.com/?attachment_id=76

I checked the image's html that appears in the post after I click Insert Into Post.

    <img src="http://www.myaddondomain.com/www.myaddondomain.com/public_html/myaddondomain.com/wp-content/uploads/bananas_maple_syrup.jpg" alt="bananas and maple syrup" title="bananas_maple_syrup" width="340" height="291" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-76" />

That seems to be an awful lot of repetitions of myaddondomain.com !!!

Does this help anyone answer our question of why Media Library thumbnails don't show and why images will not display on the webpage?

To Esmi, I see you have not gotten my most recent post yet, however thanks for replying about the plugins. Oh dear! I only just got my Contact Form 7 plugin working nicely and I fear to tread the path of meddling in php files as I'm a newish-bie. I'm wondering why this is necessary? I only just built the site with Twenty Ten, did not meddle in anything, but images never worked from the start. I thought it would work properly.....

Try just using wp-content/uploads for your uploads path in Settings->Media. Do you have any other broken permalinks on your site?

I'm wondering why this is necessary?

In my experience, plugins account for about 50% of all WP site issues. The quality of coding tends to vary wildly and it's not unknown for any 2 or more well-coded plugins to conflict with one another to create even more problems.

When troubleshooting, you always have to go through a process of elimination - from the most common causes to the rarer ones. Plugins are invariably top of that list. If you just deactivate them (as opposed to deleting), they should retain their settings. I'm pretty sure that CF7 will.
