Trying to resolve a number of issues with my blog. If I switch to the default 2.9.1 WP Theme, some of my blog posts with images and/or YouTube videos end up extending over into the right sidebar over the sidebar text. But, when I use a different theme, (currently using Motion) the images don’t spill over into the sidebar, nor do the YouTube videos.
Please note that I’m NOT using any type of image, gallery, or YouTube plugin. Only using the image uploader out of the box, stock WP 2.9.1. and I have not modified the theme in any way.
Even though I’m not planning to use the default theme, there must be something wrong elsewhere causing this issue so I would like to resolve it. Thanks.
Your images or videos could be simply exceeding the content area width in the default theme. It’s a fixed width theme and the content area has a relatively narrow defined width (450px) on archive pages. Hence the lack of sidebars and the wider content area on single post pages (although that still only gives you 760px to play with). The best you could hope to achieve would be to give a high(ish) z-index to the sidebar so that larger content images would slide underneath it.
So I don’t think it’s a WP issue. More of a theme/design problem and another sign that the old default theme has perhaps outlived its usefulness. On the plus side, the 3.0 default theme looks a lot nicer. 🙂
