Images exist on server and are sourced in articles, but don't show up

  • The title says it all. All my images are sourced properly in older articles, and when I copy link source and go to, the image shows up. Even editing the article in raw HTML and sourcing the image properly, it still won’t show up. All image folders have 777 permissions.

Any thoughts to put me in the right direction?

Unless you provide a link to a page demonstrating the problem, no one will be able to offer much in the way of assistance.

I was hoping someone would ask me to message them my link.

Sorry but these forums do not offer private messaging.

Ah, okay. The problem is located here.

The front page is fine, and oddly enough, the newer articles are perfect. If you hit any page on the archives, the images stop working. If you copy image source, they’re there. You may notice some images exist in a different directory, but the broken images aren’t exclusive to any one directory. The common factor is the date. Images stop working at the second to last post on June 3rd.

Could you be a little more specific? I’m seeing lots of images in your monthly archive pages.

You mean to tell me that when you click on any archive page, say something from 2012, that you’re seeing all the images?

Could it be that your old server prevents hotlinking images?

Visiting this page http://www.yabyumaz.com/2012/08 shows a broken image link. However, opening the image link in a new window shows the photo resides on yabyumwest.com.

This seems to indicate that yabyumaz.com is unable to show images from yabyumwest.com.

I thought I tried before to change one image to yabyumaz to see if it would work and it didn’t. I must’ve stupidly changed the href attribute instead by accident. Changing the image source fixed the problem. So my next question would be, how can I have yabyumaz be able to show images from yabyumwest?

It depends on how the hotlink protection is enabled.

It can be managed at the server level, in which case you’ may need to ask your hosting company for help. For example here is how to manage it on hostgator and similar Cpanel-based hosting environments: http://support.hostgator.com/articles/cpanel/what-is-hot-linking-how-do-i-enable-and-disable-hotlink-protection

Hotlink protection may also be enabled via a plugin such as iThemes Security, All in One WP Security and others. How to add your domain as a an allowed referrer will vary by plugin. Ask the plugin author for assistance.

Finally, it’s possible that you’re preventing hotlinking via htaccess. If you don’t remember doing this, it is the least likely scenario. Just in case, here are instructions for adding an allowed domain via htaccess: http://perishablepress.com/allow-feedburner-access-to-hotlink-protected-images/
